Black Rock Orchard

Black Rock Orchard is located in Carroll County, Maryland, on the Pennsylvania line. Owned by David Hochheimer and Emily Zaas, it supports one family and employs four additional full-time workers year-round. The orchard relies solely on farmers markets in the DC/Baltimore metro area to sell all of their fruit, including winter markets and specialty crops, which help keep workers employed full-time. Established in 1980 on 77 acres, Black Rock Orchard prides itself on its wide range of traditional and modern fruit cultivars, with unique features like an original Mason Dixon mile marker located in the plums.
